There's an endless source of travel magazines and books. All of them, I am sure, most relevant and very helpfull. There's one travel series though I am lacking: the city survival guide for dad's! Think about all those divorced dad's that take their kids along on a holiday. What on earth do you do with your kids after you have been to the zoo, have eaten thirteen ice creams and have had the simming pool now for three days in a row? And what about the nights where you can't leave your rented appartment, the tv set only receives Croatian public television and the worldwideweb has passed this part of the world? What do you feed your kids, where can you take them where both kids and yourself have fun? How can you give your holiday with your kids an extra twist? I'd definitely would buy that guide for any city. In fact, I'd like to produce it for Amsterdam and Copenhagen - if any publisher out there is interested.

Tagging Tivoli

Tivoli is one of Europe's eldest amusement parcs (1843), located in Copenhagen (The oldest amusement park of the world (opened 1583) is Bakken, at Klampenborg, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. Another long-standing park is Prater in Vienna, Austria, which opened in 1766). One of its big charms is that it is in the middle of the city center. This makes Tivoli an easy 'target' both for planned trips and/or spontaneous visits. What it lacks though (in my humble opinion) is proper branding. Especially abroad. What about a sexy tagg line for example?

This holiday, as always, we visited Tivoli with the kids (they love it, so do we) and on our way out, seeing the entrance with the name from behind, it struck me: they already have the perfect tagg line. In reversed order Tivoli reads: ilovit or rather I LOVE IT.

Tivoli - I love it --- admitted, it ventures straight into McDonalds lap and  that might be for all the reasons in the world not the association Tivoli is looking for. However, it is too obvious to not stmble over it and I hope they will consider using it. Soon. Cause it does come close to the warmth the brand is connected with.

Teenage (mutant) drink

Teens in the Western world drink too much alcohol. Especially boys. The social pressure is large and it is still seen as very masculine and cool if you can absorp enormous amounts of alcoholic drinks. The challenge is to come up with an alternative. That is what this idea is about. AKA 41 is a non alcoholic but highly stimulating drink that should be put on the market for teens only.

The blend comes in a murky colour which - when held under black light - changes colour completely and has some natural ingredients that help the average teen getting a good kick (a great deal of cafeine to get extra energy and Russian root to feel enlightened - the taste: not too sweat, fresh). The can comes with a skull and is transparent - but the murky content makes the can look black and highlights the skull. Once the can is almost empty, a disclaimer shows telling you that drinking this actually gets into your entire system and gives you the energy of a soldier in combat.

The story telling around the drink should give the drink the unique edge that makes it a cool alternative to drinking alcohol. It comes both as a shot and a long drink. The campaign will be through sms and gaming sites. The drink is only for sale at bars. Got the recipe, got a factory that can produce both can and drink and have some ideas for rolling this out. What do EU teens want?

The EU is growing - at least, the amount of members has grown extensivily in the past years. A lot of research has been done in what consequences this has for the shared EU economy. A lot less effort has been done to find out how this will affect the social ontology of the EU. What do we expect from a united Europe? This idea is to research what teens in Europe want from Europe - what are their dreams, their expectations? Where do they envision to live, what kind of work will they do, what about charity, what about family relations - i.e. what about their values? What motivates them, what dismotivates them?

I have an idea to do this study based upon the role models that they have. It is a well known phenomenon that role models influence teens' decisions and it could be interesting to see whether Polish teens choose the same role models as French teens? Is it their parents? Their teachers? Are role models also becoming more global and if so, who are the global role models? And are these role models aware of the influence they have?

I'm looking for people who are interested in partnering up with me to do this study. People who know the way to get EU money to fund the research, people who know about research design, people who can do the actual fieldwork and who can analyse the results afterwards. Embassies around the world are highly efficient service units reporting marketing intelligence to their home countries for the purpose of informing businesslife back home about potential opportunities. This requires a high level of inside knowledge and the ability to analyse vast amounts of data (often freely available in unstructured databases). Not a lot of embassies have the staff nor the competencies to do research the like, but still need to deliver annual reports on bio technology in country A, the automotive industry, food ingredients, wine, IT, cosmetics etc.

The main idea is to set up a desk to support embassies in the Western world by producing these reports (in a standard way agains standard prices) including market entry strategies and red tape barriers for foreign products to enter the market. In essence an import intelligence desk - if you like. Once a report is ordered, produced and paid for, the report will become 'on sale' for other embassies as well. For a small extra amount, EID customizes the report for the embassy so they can put it on their website.

Templates, pricing logic and samples of reports are available. The demand is tested too. You need resources to produce these reports (four to six people to start with) and a sales process to work a serious pipeline, both to get new assignments and to sell reports that already have been produced.

In the past two years I have run into two fantastic pieces of software: the one being able to quanitfy and qualify unstructured data residing in databases, the other one a relation based database application with a unique character enabling endless combinations.

I also became aware of the tremendous challenges universities are facing. These knowledge factories increasingly need to generate knowledge applicable by practitioners yet in essence are not geared to do so (or at least have difficulties to demonstrate their 'corporate value).

In the meantime, they have a tremendous resource both represented in all the papers and work that is residing in their content repositories (but often unstructured and therefore not very interesting to convert) and the people working and studying here. With the technology described above, a relevancy model to match content and profiles - universities in essence could be given a tool that helps them create alternative revenue models, builds a sales funnels and get much closer to corporate 'need to have'.

I've got a plan in my drawer which takes the idea quite some steps further, both the proposed business model as I can see an Academic Amazon potential, and in execution - i.e. what should be the next steps.

The technology I mention is existing and proven technologt, so nothing that needs to be build. But we need a proof of concept, meaning, a faculty or University willing to experiment, together with a plan on how to fund resources.

World of soups

This is a restaurant serving soups only. It has a simple menu: five standard well known world famous soups i.e. all time favorites - spiced up with a bi weekly at random extension of five new soups representing the season of the year.

Soups are healthy, soups are cheap. And soups are 'feel good food' - it reminds you of your grandmom, doesn't it?

I've collected a bundle of exotic soup recipies (feel free to prompt me for them) and I found a very special type of pottery to keep the soups warm for many hours without ruining the nutriceous value nor taste.

I imagine two elderly ladies serving the soup - together with some pieces of home made bread and salted butter. You can of course order to go and the perfect location would be near a shopping street or in a shopping mall. Considering the price for ingredients, at cost level you will be able to compete with fast food restaurants.

Personally, I'm not the restaurant type (although I like cooking) but I would love to start the project together with people with experience in the industry. I'd also be interested helping any entrepreneur to get this idea going. Let me know what your wishes are.
