My most feared question is from my daughter. She's six (Esther) and lately she takes an interest in what 'Dad is doing'. For a job that is. She sees me jamming away on my (Mac) keyboard and is convinced that 'daddy is playing computer'. Can't blame her. But how to explain a six year old that daddy is helping companies getting their strategic communication straight? Today it stroke me. finally. I know, for all you out there this is obvious, for me it was an epiphany: I am giving people out there the voice they deserve. I help people that normally wouldn't be heard, to be heard. I help people that normally never get information, to get qualitative good information so they can do the best job they're able to do. And I help management to understand that communication is not a step in the process, but an integrated part of any process.
How's that daddy? Well, when you enter a room, you start with turning on the light. If you don't- everything you do from there on becomes flake and unclear. Depending on which room you entered and what you set out to do, it might even prove mission impossible. It's the same with communication. It's the light in each working process. Need to confess - my daughter didn't get it but finally I got it.
