After being a scholar of Covey's seven principles, I finally got a start in the eight principle - and I can only say: the man does it again. What is truly mind boggling is that he build a program for individuals to consistently work from their own powerbase - even when working in for example a matrix organization with a high level of co dependency. Too many people in corporate organization end up in the box 'can but dunnot want to do' my job. The reason being? Unprofessional management. In my humble opinion, the root for all evil. If your manager consistently shoots down good initiatives, fails to give you the sense of urgency needed for you to prioritize, does not respect your skills and competences and only uses one third or less of your capacity - you're bound to get unmotivated. You loose your voice and worse, your belief. Coveys' program helps you to determine what to do the stay away from this trap and build a meaningful and productive working life in spite of poor management.
